Ritten (Renon)

Where the „Summer retreat“ was born – the Ritten (Renon), a broad, sunny plateau overlooking Bozen (Bolzano), South Tyrol’s capital. As early as the 17th century, it gained recognition as desirable holiday destination, when Bozen’s rich citizens began retreating here during the summer months to escape the heat of the city below. Even today, elegant patrician residences with their distinctive architectural style define the villages of Renon, bearing quiet witness to a long-standing tradition of leisure and refined relaxation. Locals like to say “This is where the summer retreat was invented.” – and a look through historical accounts suggests there is than a grain of truth to this confident claim.
